About Mr. Saldaña
Welcome to Choir at Ike! I am elated to join the Eisenhower Fine Arts Department for the 2016-17 School Year and lead the esteemed Ike Choral Program. I graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in May 2015. Prior to Ike, I served as Assistant Choir Director at Harris Middle School in the same district.
During my time at UTSA, I was an active ensemble member of the Lyric Theatre, performing leading roles in operas such as Street Scene, La Calisto, and The Old Maid and the Thief, and as soloist in concert works such as Messiah and Ein deutsches Requiem. Also a member of the UTSA Chamber Singers, I had the honor of singing alongside all four prestigious US Military choral ensembles during the inaugural year of the American Choral Directors' Association (ACDA) National American Choral Music Symposium in the summer of 2012 at Washington DC.
Outside of school, I am a member of the San Antonio Chamber Choir and IlluMen, a men's ensemble based in San Antonio. With the San Antonio Chamber Choir, we had the honor of closing the Texas Choral Directors' Association (TCDA) Convention in the summer of 2014. I was previously a member of the Austin-based Amphion Youth Choir, who also had the honor of closing the same esteemed event in 2016. My professional affiliations include the TCDA, and the Texas Music Educators' Association (TMEA).
I am a fan of learning just as much as teaching; I believe that it is a lifelong skill that must be utilized in order to emerge successful in this ever-changing world. Besides teaching basic musical knowledge and skills, it is my goal to impart enduring abilities that is essential not only in the classroom but also in real life. I intend to help young musicians discover and cultivate their own passion for music through performance and teamwork.
In my spare time, I have tons of cooking and baking parties, watch a lot of Food Network, read, and travel. I also like to jam out with family, friends, and spend lots of time with a Rat Terrier/Schnauzer named Bubba Jane. I look forward to an exciting year at Ike and having the privilege of working with some talented young musicians!
